A Young Woman Faces Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Irresponsible And Heavy Drinking, And Boosts Her Self Esteem

Emily was a thirty-seven-year-old marketing manager who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday of her life and fed up with her unhealthy drinking behavior. Stated briefly, she missed her old enthusiasm for doing various things she enjoyed, she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her constant drinking, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was mad at herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a recurring basis.

As well as the identifiable alcohol-related health difficulties she was going through, possibly the nastiest part of her drinking behavior was the undependable and dishonest person she had turned into. In her heart of hearts she knew that she had been deceitful about her drinking behavior to her relatives, friends, and family and she also knew she had been lying to herself about the "healthy" effects of drinking. Not only this but she justified guzzling two or three drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing several drinks the very first thing in the morning so that she could manage the "anxiety" at her job. In brief, Emily got to the point in her life when she comprehended that she hit the bottom of the barrel in her life and was now ready to start the gradual and slow road to recovery.

One of the ways that Emily put her "plan" into action was by asking for a transfer at work. When her request was approved by top management, she moved 300 miles away to a new location. If nothing else, this certainly made making new friends and pals and distancing herself from her old friends and pals easier. Then she visited with a healthcare professional in her new location city and scheduled an appointment for a comprehensive physical and psychological examination.

After meeting with the doctor and taking several laboratory tests, it was discovered that Emily had made the regrettable transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and, as a result, really needed alcohol therapy and alcohol detox. At this time, the healthcare professional made it a point to highlight the diverse alcoholic symptoms and the familiar symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to taking a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, the doctor also told Emily that it was determined that she was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for her medical situation.

Due to her enthusiasm for following through with the rehabilitation protocol, after five weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to begin rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, she started working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began revitalizing her body by drinking distilled water, living an alcohol-free way of life, going to the gym, eating wholesome foods, and taking vitamins.

After around eleven weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never went through a relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol rehabilitation and instead started going three times per week to local AA meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily continue her alcohol-free way of life, they gave her the support she wanted, and they served as a frequent reminder of the damaging results that are correlated with abusive drinking. Compared with her life just a few short months ago, life was now pleasant and full of possibilities that she could have never yearned for or made real while she was involved in unhealthy drinking behavior.
